Sometimes I feel like as a student, I forget that making mistakes is human. I had a reminder about this this past weekend while babysitting. I made a mistake when making a craft, but the child said to me "It's okay, you just made a mistake, that's how you learn!"
I have always focused on achieving perfection, setting high goals, and receiving the highest grades possible. I have noticed that this has helped me academically, but it has also had an impact on me academically. Now that I am a university student, I have realized that I am afraid to make mistakes. I am afraid to receive low scores, and in many cases I am afraid to take risks.
My goal this year is to change this mindset. I want to break out of my comfort zone bubble more and try new things. I want to use the knowledge that I have gained in my years of schooling to better myself as an educator rather than just to receive a higher grade point average. I have done this before, but it was not too drastic. I would like to completely change that this year. I want to set forth onto new trails and paths where I have never dared to venture before, and, most importantly, I want to make mistakes. I want to mess up during a lesson so I can understand how I can do better. I want to try a new form of technology so I can see if it is effective or noneffective.
Overall, I want to be a better learner this year because teachers are lifelong learners, after all.
